WordCamp Cape Town 2024 – Call for Organisers

It has been 5 years since Cape Town hosted a WordCamp, and I think it’s high time to bring it back!

A lot has changed in the WordPress world since 2019. We saw the launch of Block Themes, WordPress celebrated its 20th Anniversary, and local meetups and WordCamps have slowly started re-emerging, in new and interesting ways.

To this end, WordCamp Cape Town 2024 will be a rebirth of sorts, and the focus will be on the community, the people of WordPress Cape Town. Our top priority will be to create a diverse and inclusive event for everyone and anyone who uses WordPress.

The foundations of these efforts will be rooted in the WordPress Community Code of Conduct, as well as our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion statement. Everything from selecting the organising team, where we host the event, speaker selection, and more, will be informed by these principles.

As such, I also want to encourage folks from all aspects of our community to consider being part of the organising team. It is a great way to get involved in the local community and I would love to see more diversity in the organising team for 2024.

In terms of time commitment, you will probably need to set aside 2-3 hours per week during the planning stages. 1 hour will be needed to attend the weekly team meeting, which will be held online via Zoom, and you will need about 1-2 hours for any follow-up tasks, that you can tackle in your own time. Additionally, it would be ideal if you can attend the event in person, to assist with any logistics, so living in or close to Cape Town is recommended.

If this is something that you are keen to be a part of, then please join me by filling in the form below.

This form will remain open until the 27th of October, 2024.
